MAIN OBJECTIVE

The main goal of the project is the development of an environmental friendly, cost-effective technological process to create UV shielding textile materials by dyeing and finishing with hybrid nanoceramic composites.
The UV protective materials are dedicated mainly to ecological and comfortable textiles for summer clothes with increased Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF>50+), able to protect human body from harmful effects of UV rays and to technical textiles with enhanced fastness to weather climate.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The project’ target is the development of UV-shielding textiles able to protect human body from harmful effects of UV rays by:
1. the identification of critical parameters to create new ecological fabric structures based on natural and natural/chemical yarns mixtures
2. improving the UV protection by dyeing with natural or selected synthetic dyes
3.  textile surface structuring based on organic modifiers and nanoceramic powders
4. performance evaluation: chemical &physical properties, UPF, antimicrobial activity, comfort
5. toxicity and environmental impact of developed textiles.

FORSEEN RESULTS

Technologies:
•Technologies to produce UV-shielding fabrics with UPF >50+ and increased comfort based on selected natural and artificial yarns.
• Dyeing and nanoceramic finishing technologies of natural (cotton, linen) and synthetic (bamboo,  viscose, polyester) knitted and woven fabrics.

Products
• min. 5 types of fabrics based on 100% cotton, 100% bamboo, cotton/bamboo, cotton/polyester or other blends offering excellent protection(UPF 50+) to the skin against UV-A and UV-B rays exposure.

Studies, scientific papers, patents
• one patent referring to dyeing/finishing technology and UV protective textiles.
• min. 3 scientific papers, published in high impact journals.
